About PCA

Pickleball Coronado Association has been formed to bring together people who are already playing pickleball, those who would like to play, and those who simply want to create even more ways of making Coronado a friendly, healthy, and fun place to live, work or visit. Our members are:

  • Residents of Coronado and non-residents including visitors to our town

  • Women and men of all ages and backgrounds.

    • 50/50 balance between women and men

    • Ages from 5 to 95 (and a few outliers on either extreme!)

  • Experienced players, newcomers, and those who would like to improve their skills

  • Those who want to enjoy existing friendships and/or  make new friends

We’re a brand new organization in Coronado representing a growing sport. Our initial efforts are:

  • Build awareness of the sport of pickleball

  • Introduce the PCA as a voice and advocate for those who enjoy the game

  • Work with Coronado’s elected officials and senior management to better understand current and projected demand for permanent and dedicated pickleball courts in both the Village and Cays areas of our City.

CORONADO PICKLEBALL FACILITIES AND SERVICES

At present, there are no permanent and dedicated public pickleball courts in Coronado. We think there should be.  We define permanent as courts with boundary lines that are painted on the court surface as opposed to lines occasionally laid down with special tape. Such taped, temporary lines must be periodically replaced due to wear and tear. Dedicated means the lines on the court are prescribed only for pickleball play. This contrasts with shared lines on a court with more than one use, often tennis or basketball. On a temporary or shared court, the nets used for pickleball must be lightweight and portable so that they may be moved off and on a tennis or other sport court..

Pickleball facilities presently available in Coronado include:

  • 8 courts in the Cays that are converted from 2 tennis courts through the addition of temporary taped lines. This temporary conversion and scheduling of court time is managed by Impact Activities https://www.impactactivities.com/coronado on behalf of the City. Court fees are presently $5 (per court) for residents and $15 (per court) for nonresidents. Reservations are for 2 hours of play.

  • 8 courts in the Village are owned and managed by Coronado Island Marriott Resort and Spa. These dedicated and permanent courts are presently available to members of the public at a cost of $6 per player for a 2-hour session.

Most PCA members favor permanent and dedicated courts which have high quality, long-lasting, and safe net posts and nets. The PCA is actively working with City of Coronado leadership to better understand the current and projected demand for pickleball courts in both the Village and Cays areas of our City. Based on preferences expressed by our members thus far, PCA strongly favors and intends to advocate for the creation of permanent and dedicated pickleball courts in both the Village and Cays.
